Functional Genetics, Inc. (FGI) is a privately-held, development stage biotechnology company. We use innovative science to develop better medicines to treat or prevent infectious diseases and cancer. We apply our strategies to medically-relevant and commercially-attractive opportunities.
Mission Statement: Functional Genetics, Inc. is committed to the development of innovative and durable antiviral products based on fundamental knowledge of host mechanisms of disease which improve patient welfare.
FGI is developing antivirals that can treat or prevent a broad spectrum of different viral diseases. This innovative approach is made possible through the use of our core RHGP discovery engine, which can identify host targets that are "hijacked" and functionally altered in virus-infected cells. The Company has demonstrated these changes in target function provide opportunities to selectively target viruses without harming normal cells.
The Company's antiviral products include monoclonal antibody and small molecule therapeutics. The host mechanisms targeted by FGI's products are fundamental for and shared by many different virus families. These features facilitate the targeting of unrelated virus types by a single therapeutic while minimizing the likelihood that drug-resistant variants will arise.
The Company's three lead products are at or near clinical-stage development. Functional Genetics, Inc. filed its first IND in 1Q10 and two additional INDs are on track for submission in 3Q10 and 1Q11.
